Ballack’s Debut, the Victory of Leverkusen
BERLIN – Michael Ballack returned to celebrate victories in the major leagues in Germany (Bundesliga) after four years with Chelsea, which together host Bayer Leverkusen beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the opening game of their season, local time Sunday.
Meanwhile, league champions Bayern Munich a 2-1 win over VfB Wolfsburg through one goal ahead of arenas created by Bastian Schweinsteiger on Friday, and Hamburg SV bent last season’s runners-up Schalke 04 with a score of 2-1 on Saturday.
Ballack, who played for Leverkusen until 2002, moved to Bayern Munich, and then back from Chelsea before the season. “What is it less in me is power,” said 33-year-old midfielder’s.
“But I’m happy to be playing for full 90 minutes, the coach had asked me a few times but I said that I could continue to play,” he added. Leverkusen grabbed the early advantage in the 19th minute when Tranquillo Barnetta successfully welcomes the mature feedback.
Three minutes later, Leverkusen added advantage over a solo act by Renato Augusto.
Dortmund tried to minimize their backwardness in the second round, but free shot of Nuri Sahin soared above the crossbar Germany international goalkeeper Rene Adler.
